Digital image bank for Limburg's mobile heritage: historic licence plates, vehicles, owners and stories, enriched with Wikidata and searchable down to the smallest detail.
For Communicate Design we built kentekenlimburg.nl, a heritage platform around the earliest Limburg licence plates (P numbers). Each plate has its own timeline, because a number used to be issued several times. Vehicles, owners, photos, locations and stories are interlinked and clickable from both sides.
The platform runs on Statamic and is built to grow: editors import data via Excel, visitors contribute through a moderated submission module, and AI helps with meta texts and automatic article tagging.
The challenge
Connecting thousands of licence plates, vehicles, people and photos without drowning the editorial team in manual work. And the content had to be findable not only for visitors, but also count as a verifiable source for search engines and AI assistants.
Our approach
We built a rich data model with two-way relationships and our own Wikidata integration: searching and linking entities from within the CMS, with local caching, multilingual labels and automatic type recognition. Places come from GeoNames, complete with a map of Limburg. Every page gets schema.org markup with sameAs references to Wikidata and Wikipedia.
The result
A lightning-fast platform (full static caching) that meets WCAG 2.1 AA, with fuzzy search through Meilisearch and rich snippets in search engines. The AI extension automatically tags articles with IPTC Media Topics and reads articles aloud with text-to-speech.
